The Beauty Beneath

Lake Tahoe,  one of my favorite get-away destinations, is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States.  On a recent visit, as I drove across the pass, I got that much anticipated first glimpse at the lake in the valley.  The water was brilliant blue – it was enormous – awe inspiring as it lay nestled in the beautiful pines.

Then my attention was redirected to the haze that hung over the valley.  The sky above was blue, not a cloud in sight, but a gray blanket had settled right in the middle of it all.  I thought to myself it was a shame that the beauty was ruined.  Then I realized, the beauty wasn’t ruined – it was still present, it had not changed – it was simply covered.  Tainted for a time, but not lost.  I reasoned that with a strong wind the haze would be removed and the true and intended beauty would be unobstructed.

There are times when we lose sight of the beauty God has placed in each of us.  There are no promises that we won’t experience difficulties, disappointments, and set-backs in life that sometimes cast a haze, but there is a promise that God, with a word, a breath, can once again reveal the beauty.

There’s a tendency in all of us who struggle with life’s haze to resign to the gray, but how might life be changed if we asked ourselves – What if God can restore the beauty?  What if I asked?  And what if He did?

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

If you’re struggling with the concept of the beauty beneath, I’d encourage you to check out “To Be Known” under the Resources tab. I recently completed the life story of a woman who experienced insignificance as a young girl, and worthlessness in adulthood. But through an amazing miracle in her heart and spirit, she came to recognize all the beauty of who God created her to be.
